Vanochtend waren we lekker vroeg wakker. Hiermee bedoel ik dat we om 6uur al naast ons bed stonden en om 7uur al aan het ontbijten waren.
Het ontbijt in het hotel is een beetje karig. We hebben niet heel veel keuze, maar na twee geroosterde boterhammen met boter, een mini donut en een beker jus d’orange kunnen we tweede dag met volle moed beginnen.
Het doel deze ochtend was een wandeling langs de Hudson richting het Vrijheidsbeeld. Gedurende deze wandeling zijn we uiteraard enkele keren gestopt. Zelf heb ik voor het eerst in mijn leven een Starbucks Coffee gedronken. Ik had gekozen voor de Espresso Iced White Chocolate Mocha. Dit was niet helemaal een succes. Volgende keer een andere smaak proberen.
Na een wandeling van ruim 3,5uur kwamen we bij de ferry aan, die ons naar Liberty Island zou brengen. Helaas waren wij niet de enige die deze ochtend naar het Vrijheidsbeeld wilden. De wachtrij was bijna net zo lang als de tocht die wij vanaf ons hotel hebben afgelegd. We besloten dus maar om een andere dag naar het Vrijheidsbeeld te gaan.
Dan maar een wandeltochtje door Manhattan. Als eerste richting Wall Street. Daarna richting Chinatown. Wow, wat stinkt het daar. Alle straten zijn voorzien van winkels met ‘verse’ producten (groente, vis en vele andere dingen, die wij niet thuis kunnen brengen).
Ondertussen was de middag aangebroken en besloten wij in Little Italy een lekker hapje te gaan eten. Dit is zeker gelukt. We hebben heerlijk genoten van Garlic bread en carpaccio. De Garlic bread proeven wij, op het moment dat dit bericht wordt geschreven, nog steeds.
Na de lunch hebben we de zoektocht naar de Uggs hervat. In Soho is een Ugg store gevestigd. Wat een geweldige winkel! Hier hebben Celeste en ik beide twee paar Uggs ingeslagen.
Verder hebben we nog wat geshopt op Broadway, maar na enkele winkels waren onze voetjes er klaar mee en besloten we terug te gaan naar ons hotel. Dit was de eerste keer dat we de metro gingen gebruiken. Dit hadden we toch vanochtend ook al moeten doen…
M’n moeder wilde heel graag d’r nieuwe broek aan, die ze in Nederland nieuw had aangeschaft. Celeste en ik wisten niet dat je in twee dagen zoveel kilo kon aankomen. De broek die mama had gekocht, en in de winkel nog paste, was nu 3 maten te klein. Ze kreeg de broek niet eens over d’r dijen.
Na ons bezoekje aan onze hotelkamer zijn we richting het Theater district gaan lopen, met als doel musicalkaartjes te kopen. Helaas draaien er op zondagavond geen leuke shows. Toen maar besloten morgen kaartjes te gaan kopen voor dinsdag en woensdag.
Voor het diner konden we deze avond wel terecht bij Ellen’s Stardust Dinner. Wat een onwijs leuke tent (wist ik eigenlijk al, want was hier vorig jaar ook al enkele keren geweest). Het bedienend personeel zingt gedurende de avond liedjes uit verschillende musicals en popsongs.
Na het diner hebben we nog wat gewandeld zonder doel. Tussendoor nog een stop gemaakt in het Bryant Park, aangezien onze voetjes het al weer moeilijk hadden.
M’n moeder en ik hebben beide al een souvenir gescoord. Beide een mooi 3D schilderij. M’n moeder één van de skyline van New York en ik één van Broadway, met de musicals!!
Voor onze terugkeer naar het hotel hebben we nog even snel een koude cola gedronken bij de McDonalds. Hier waren we wel aan toe na zo’n zware dag en helaas hebben we op de kamer geen koelkast om ons drinken koud te zetten.
Momenteel liggen we gesloopt op ons bed. Alledrie met behoorlijk wat blaren op en onder onze voeten. We lopen als debielen door de hotelkamer, omdat alles aan onze voeten pijn doet. Als dit morgen maar goed gaat…
